Johnson Asset Management
“JOHNSON CORE BOND FUND RANKS 1ST PERCENTILE 1-YEAR, 3-YEAR, AND 5-YEAR ENDING Q1 2020 AND RECEIVES FIVE-STAR RATING FROM MORNINGSTAR”

Johnson Institutional Core Bond Fund (JIBFX) received a Five-Star Morningstar Overall Rating™ as of February 29, 2020.  The ranking of the fund is in part due to our strong performance in recent volatile markets and consistency of our long-term approach.

During the first quarter, the Johnson Institutional Core Bond Fund returned 5.05%, outpacing the benchmark by 190 bps.  The fund was in the 1st percentile of the Morningstar US Fund Intermediate Core Bond category for 1-year, 3-year and 5-year time periods. The outperformance was largely driven by the Johnson Fixed income team’s quality credit selection discipline and investment process.  Additionally, during 2019, proactive sector allocation and positioning of duration, based on fundamental analysis and long-term relative valuation, helped the portfolio avoid problematic areas of the market during its recent period of unprecedented volatility.

The Johnson Institutional Core Bond Fund is led by Johnson Asset Management’s five-person Fixed Income Investment team. The objective of the funds is to outperform the market index with comparable volatility and greater downside risk protection. The team strives to deliver clients consistent and attractive long-term investment results using their proprietary Quality Yield approach.

Johnson Asset Management is a Midwest based investment management firm focused on both investment grade fixed income and domestic equity securities. The firm’s primary objective is to deliver clients a high-quality portfolio designed to outperform the market with comparable volatility while providing stability — especially during periods of economic or market stress.

Further details and the Fund Fact Sheet can be found here. For more information on the firm and services, please visit www.johnsonasset.com. Questions about how to access the funds? Please contact Irene Tsai directly at 614.806.3867 or by email: itsai@johnsonasset.com.

Information From Andrea Seidt, Ohio Securities Commissioner, Ohio Department of Commerce
On Friday, March 27, Governor DeWine signed H.B. 197, emergency legislation to provide relief to businesses and Ohioans in light of the COVID-19 crisis. Included in the bill are several regulatory relief measures.  For example, the bill automatically extends renewal deadlines for all existing Division licenses, registration certificates, and notice filings that would otherwise expire during the crisis and gives licensees/registrants the same extension to complete any other actions that are necessary to maintain those licenses and registrations.  The extension provides all licensees/registrants a 90-day window after the emergency period has ended to make any renewal filings due and to take any other actions necessary to maintain licensure and registration in Ohio.  Although the end date of the emergency period remains uncertain, the 90-day window is structured so that all extensions automatically end no later than December 1, 2020.  H.B. 197 also provides relief to the  Division and other agencies impacted by COVID-19 by granting the agencies the same 90-day extension in which to respond to applications and filings made during the emergency period, tolling timelines otherwise imposed by statutory and regulatory review mandates.  The Division currently has no plans to delay its review of licensing or registration applications as it is continuing operations via telework with minimal to no disruption in service.  If you have any questions on H.B. 197 and how it applies to your business, please contact Anne Followell at Anne.Followell@com.state.oh.us.

March 12, 2020; 9:00 am

Dear FPA NEO Members and Friends:

The Financial Planning Association of Northeast Ohio (FPA NEO) is monitoring the public health response to and guidance about the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).  The board of directors, in cooperation with our staff team, is following appropriate state and national guidance about managing business events, which includes information from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), World Health Organization, U.S. State Department, etc.

At this time, we plan to continue hosting our events as planned, but retain the right to cancel any events or meetings if doing so is in the best interest of the health of the attendees/members.

It is recommended that all event attendees follow their respective national health agency travel guidance, as well as personal preference. If an event or conference cancellation is warranted, we will communicate this cancellation via email to registered members and guests and place notice on the association’s website.  Please make sure that your contact information, and that of your guests, is current with our staff office.

In addition, we recommend the following practices while together at meetings and events:

  • Limit or refrain from shaking hands
  • Frequently and thoroughly wash hands with soap or alcohol-based sanitizer
  • Cover mouth and nose with your bent elbow or a tissue when coughing, sneezing/etc.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness
  • Stay home and/or refrain from travel if you don’t feel well

We welcome your questions and encourage you to reach out to me or our staff team. Your patience and flexibility during this unprecedented time is appreciated.
